Can You Strengthen Your Feet with Exercise?

It’s no secret that we’re familiar with chronic foot pain and common foot conditions here at Support the Foot. In fact, we’ve dedicated our lives and careers to helping those suffering from foot pain find alternative methods for pain management to avoid surgery. The catalyst for developing QUICK TAPE was born of a common foot condition, and we work hard daily to help people enjoy their active lives free from discomfort.

In addition to foot taping to help support your arches and reduce pain, one of the best ways to improve the way your feet function, prevent further injury, and alleviate discomfort is by strengthening your feet through targeted exercises.

How can you exercise your feet?

Just like a healthy diet and regular exercise help keep your body healthy, your feet also benefit from targeted movement to help strengthen muscles and tendons. Not only does increased foot strength help manage pain and reduce your risk of injury, foot exercises can also help you learn to move your feet in the proper way.

Here’s all you need to get started:

  • A small, firm ball, such as a tennis ball
  • Toe separators, like what is used to paint toenails
  • A small towel

While there are a number of strengthening exercises you can do, we’ve found this video by health and fitness coach Caroline Jordan to provide a comprehensive, easy-to-follow exercise routine for your feet.

For the most comfort and support, we recommend exercising your feet while you are wearing your QUICK TAPE foot support strap. This will help keep your arch supported and your foot in proper alignment to ensure you stay comfortable during the workout and are able to get the most out of your foot exercises.

Good luck and let us know how these exercises work out for you!
